Advert/Digipak ideas/test

For this idea we took lots of inresting screen shots from the video and any other footage we had and put them all together in a grid/collage style.

We then multiplied the image to create more photos and this created a busier more intresting effect as it appears abstract from a distance.

We then put a colour filter over the image to make the pictures more similar and blend together better.

Next we cropped and layered the image of our actors face ontop.

By editing the opacity this ment we could fade in the background through the face.
Then by editing colour and contrast we tried making the colours more vibrant as we wanted the bright lively colours to represent to song and video , however they are very busy draws attention away from the face.

Because of this we tried making the colours less saturated. However this made the image too dull and didnt not represent the upbeat music we have chosen.

Advert/digipak planning & ideas

This is our plan for our magazine advert , we have used lots of elements from our video such as trains, bottles ,book and made it set on a desk where we can use sticky notes to put tour dates on and use the labels of bottles to put reviews on.

This is another idea we had for the advert as some simple ideas can work for adverts and look really effective, however it is too plain and does not relate enough to the video.

These 2 ideas could both work for the advert or digipak cover as they use one clear image but will also use other related images.

These are the initial ideas for images we could use on different pages of the digipak. we will now experiment with these ideas and see which works best.

bottle stop motion

We practiced the drawing of a stop motion bottle which we wanted to include, we did it a few drawings and then put the together on imovie.

We didnt think there were enough frames of the bottel falling resulting in it looking rushed and not very smooth.

Here are the final images i drew for the real bottle, we we alot more drawings to make the motion smoother, we also added soem colour to make it more livey and match the upbeat song.

Props-set up

On the day we had some bottles and cans which we had collected, the first thing we did was lay out all the bottles and props around the room to create the morning after the party and the hangover scene

This is the room we changed into the morning after. We also used cardboard beer boxes, socks, pants, shoes, toilet roll and food packaging.

Shooting stop motion (lighting)

When shooting our stop motion we found that where we had shot before was not bright  enough and made the quality look poor. We tried putting the book on different surfaces in different rooms with different lighting.
This is where we shot our parctice stop motion however it was not bright enough. we tried using a lamp from science however it was still not bright enough.

We then found a good light in the corridoor and we could place the book directly under the light, however the book was not as bright as we wanted still as we thought it would be difficult to see the drawings and text that we will create.

We then used and LED light to light the book it looked very effective and made the book stand out alot...

However we had no way of securing the light so we had to hold it above the book manualy. this worked well to begin with but our arms got tired and the lighting became inconsistant in each shot.

In the end we settled with the corridoor light as it would not move and was still fairly bright.

actors

Our chosen actor was Josh Barrett, we thought he was suitable for the role as he had the right look and clcothes for the part. we asked josh to remove his glasses as we didnt not want any reflections of the camera which would make it look unprofessional.

Briefing:
-We asked josh to wear skinny jeans, a hoody and a checked shirt.
-When acting and singing we wanted him to look like he was having fun and was part of the song.
-Josh also had to pretend to be sick, he volunteered to bring some soup and act it out.
-For the hangover shot we wanted him to look tired and hungover.

For the other actors we wanted everyone to look lively and happy as well as stickig to together to make shots look busy.

book props

These are the books we used to create the scrap book, we chose the brown book as the cover looked more effective and 'scrappy' however we knew that we would need plain white paper as we wanted to edit the face into the book.
To make the two books look like one we had to transfer pages of plain paper into the brown book for the begining and end, all the other shots of the book are in the original plain paper as doing stop motion ment that we used up lots of sheets and it would be too complicated to transfer so many pages into another book.

Book Face

To create the effect of a face moving in a book we had to take a vey still shot of out actors face so that once edited the face did not move behind the wrong layer.
First of all we layer the image of josh over a plain white photo.

Next we used the green screen option to edit the layers.

Next we used the crop tool to select just the face area that we wanted to see.

We then cropped it and tested the video worked

Finally we used the video editor to make josh's facial features balck and white and stand out. we did this by increaseing exposure and contrst and decreasing brightness and saturation.

This is the final video we created which we will export and then import into the rest  of our promo

stop motion

Stop motion clips:
The first clips was of the book title which then opens and zooms into the photo and turns into a video. we found that instead of using video to zoom in the use of stop motion zooming in was much better at flowing into the video. When turning the page over we did not want a hand in the shot so we used claer sellotape and objects to told the pages open at different angles.

We also used stop motion to create lyrics which went across the page in time to music. for all of these photographs we marked out where the book and tripod went on the table so that it was consistent throughout.

We also made a stop motion drawing of a bottle falling over and spilling. we did this by drawing several picture of the bottle at different angles and traced the bottle each time so that it was the same on each page. We made sure that every photo was lit well so that the quality was better.

stop motion testing

we practiced the general ideas we had for our stop motion the idea of the title page appearing on the book worked well, however as it was just a practice we would do it much better and neater as there was a variation in shadows and some camera movement which made it look less effective. for the real stop motion we will also try and light the book brighter as this will enhance the image.

When zooming into the photo and out into a video we found it difficult to make the two flow together as they were not perfectly lined up. This is also something which we would make better for the real one.

Another way we tried to turn the photo into videos was by using a still from the first frame of the video and editing in onto the book using final cut. This technique flowed much better however it was not very realistic and was not the look we were going for.

We want to try and continue the stop motion through out the book so we will practice drawings and other images in stop motion to see what is effective

Lighting

We want to make the party scene look dark whilst still highlighting the singer so we will light his face brighter. however the room we plan to use has a large window so we will have to cover it and make the room appear dark. This may effect the quality of the film so we will have to test what works best before filming

Costume Plan

Actor:
We want our actor to look casual we will use the same outfit throughout as the video is set within a small timescale.
We have asked our actor to wear skinny jeans, a check shirt and a hoody. The hoody is important as for the lyric 'hoods up' we will use it
The actor will also need to wear a watch which will be seen in extreme close ups.

Our other actors will also be wearing casual clothes for the house party scene

Props

The Settings for the promo will be in a house, at at train station and down alleyways.
-In the house we will use small rooms as we will need it to look busy with the limited number of actors.
-The train station will need to look empty and the lyrics refer to the there being no more trains. however shots of the busy train station could be used before this lyric as the shots may look effective. The station will be using is Stamford.

The book we will be using needs to look like a scrap book and we will add scribbles and drawings to give this effect to it. we will also need to print the photographs to put inside te book

For the party scenes we will need lots of empty bottles and cans as well as cups and shot glasses. These props will also be needed for the aftermath of the party. We will also use things such as toilet roll food packaging and broken bottles. We may also need some playing cards to create the effect of drinking games going on.

The bathroom shots involve the actor being sick. The prop we will need is fake sick for the hangover scene, for this we will use soup.

shooting plan

For the shots inside the house i have planned how we will shoot in each room so that when we frame shots they look busy and realistic. These are just the shots that wil be used in the house we will also need to shoot at the trainstation and down an alley however we will frame these shot on location.
